The instructions for this assignment suggest an expected length of around three pages. Therefore, you should not seek to explain every possible twist and turn of the data. Rather, the focus of this assignment is using data as a starting point to discuss key trends over time.
Focus
The topic is the relationship between energy use and GDP, and this is what you should concentrate on. That is, you are not expected to discuss trends in GDP or energy use on their own, but how these two variables interact. (And within energy use, the relevance of the two different measures.)
What you choose to focus on in your assignment will depend on the countries you have selected. Perhaps all three countries exhibit the same patterns. Or maybe they all show different trends? Both scenarios can be interesting to reflect on.
- To the extent you observe similar patterns with respect to GDP and energy use, what might the countries have in common that would likely lead to this?
- Likewise, given differences in the patterns, in what ways do the countries differ?
References
You are not expected to survey large volumes of literature for this assignment. However, you will likely need to conduct desktop research to understand some of the potential drivers of the trends you observe in the data. The assignment specifically points to the Regulatory Indicators for Sustainable Energy (RISE) as one possible source. More generally, reports from government, industry groups and consultancies may all provide relevant context.
You are expected to correctly cite whatever sources you use!
